Position Title: Project Coordinator- Watershed Science and Stewardship Programs

General Description
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, serve as project coordinator on watershed science and stewardship projects. The project coordinator is responsible for carrying out tasks relating to implementing and overseeing stewardship and watershed science projects such restoration site monitoring, citizen science projects, weed control, revegetation, and other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director. The project coordinator will also carry out program and administrative tasks including planning and organizing meetings and outreach/volunteer events, grant research, preparation and compliance.

We are looking for someone with over three years of professional working experience in the fields of watershed science, ecological restoration, and/or stewardship. The position will require skills and experience in restoration monitoring and watershed science (such as specialties in watershed science, ecology, geomorphology, hydrology, water quality, fisheries or similar), stewardship (weed control and revegetation), and volunteer recruitment and oversight. In addition, we are looking for a highly organized and motivated self-starter with excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.

Tasks
Primary tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Serve as project coordinator (and project manager, as appropriate) of watershed science and stewardship projects. Specifically, this includes but is not limited to:
o Overseeing and implementing restoration project monitoring tasks and monitoring tasks to assess overall watershed health;
o Preparing an annual state of the watershed report;
o Researching and preparing grant applications related to funding LWOG’s watershed science program;
o Coordinating monitoring efforts with citizen science groups, and stewardship efforts with volunteer groups;
o Maintain a restoration and watershed monitoring database and provide regular updates to internal and external parties.
o Represent LWOG in the community and marketing LWOG as a science-based organization that other coalitions can look to as a resource;
• Complete education and outreach tasks as assigned by the Executive Director, such as organizing monitoring training activities, and organizing outreach and volunteer events, and distributing watershed related information to the community.
• Coordinate stewardship activities on project sites as needed, such as weed control, revegetation, and more.
• Maintain a GIS database and create maps as needed.
• Coordinate site access and communication with landowners.
• Complete fee for service monitoring activities for partner agencies.
• Carryout other program development tasks as assigned by the Executive Director and as identified in the annual plan.
• Carryout LWOG administration tasks and day to day management activities as assigned by the Executive Director such as:
o Maintaining and updating a landowner database, volunteer database, and donor database.
o Preparing meeting minutes at LWOG Board meetings.
o Researching, selecting, comparing, and purchasing appropriate materials and supplies while adhering to LWOG’s procurement policy and annually approved budget;
o Scheduling, planning, and coordinating education and outreach events and project related activities;
o Contributing to ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
• Other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.

Desired Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree and over three years’ experience working in a professional environment or equivalent. A background in watershed science, natural resource management, hydrology, geomorphology, or similar will be helpful. Understanding of watershed and restoration science highly desired.
• Ability to express compassion in addressing resident and landowner issues.
• Excellent skills in interpersonal relationships, organizational effectiveness, and community outreach.
• Well organized, self-starter, detail-oriented, and adaptable with the ability to manage both routine and complex tasks simultaneously.
• Familiarity with restoration monitoring techniques including vegetation surveys, geomorphic assessments (x-sections, long-profiles), benthic macro invertebrate sampling and more.
• Familiarity with stewardship techniques including weed control and revegetation.
• Experience working with and leading volunteers in data collection and/or stewardship activities.
• Ability to prepare meeting materials and presentations and assist in facilitating meetings.
• Excellent writing, presentation, and public relations skills.
• Ability to work independently, establish work priorities and manage time effectively.
• Proficiency in the use of MS Word, Excel, and Access.
• Ability to learn new computer applications, with preference given to candidates who are proficient using ESRI geographic information systems (GIS) and GPS units.
• Experience with relational database development and management, as well using data queries in Access.
• Experience with development and adherence to data collection standard operation procedures.
• Experience with statistical analysis is a plus.
• A valid Colorado Driver’s License and ability to pass background check including a good driving record. Must have own vehicle, mileage reimbursement available.

Working Conditions
Work is performed inside and outside both day and night, under varying and extreme weather conditions, and could include frequent driving of employee’s personal vehicle. Field conditions will include steep, unstable terrain, proximity to fast-moving water, proximity to highway traffic, and typical conditions associated with travel in the foothills and plains of the Rocky Mountain region. Work may include working weekends. Work includes but is not limited to exposure to sun, noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, and oils, moving vehicles, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching overhead and above shoulders, use of both hand and fingers, climbing stairs and ladders, walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body is needed. Must have correctable near and far vision, ability to hear, speak, and write. Work also includes the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and the ability to utilize communication equipment.

Salary and Position Details:
Full-time salaried position, annual salary will be in the range of $34,246-$48,775, depending on skills and experience. Benefits include paid vacation and sick time, an IRA with 3% company match. The location of the office for the position will be at the Left Hand Water District office, 6800 Nimbus Road in Longmont CO.
